Imported Thermal Coal Meaning:
In commodity market terminology, Imported Thermal Coal refers to a futures contract on thermal coal traded on the Mumbai, India-based Multi-Commodity Exchange or MCX. Coal is a dark, burnable sedimentary rock and thermal or steam coal is the cheapest and most common type of coal which is often used to produce electricity by thermal power stations.

In addition to the MCX’s Imported Thermal Coal futures contracts, coal contracts also trade actively on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) for European and South African delivery. Coal futures also trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange as the Central Appalachian (CAPP) Coal Futures Contract under the symbol QL.
