Light Sweet Crude Oil Meaning:
In commodity market terminology, Light Sweet Crude Oil refers to a type of petroleum which contains less than 0.5% sulfur, thereby making it “sweet” versus the “sour” type of petroleum that has a higher sulfuric content. Light Sweet Crude Oil is primarily refined into gasoline, diesel fuel and kerosene.

Light Sweet Crude Oil futures trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange, as well as on the CME Group’s Globex and ClearPort electronic trading platforms. Contracts are for 1,000 barrels and are quoted in U.S. Dollars with a minimum fluctuation of $0.01 per barrel or $10.00 a contract. The trading symbol for Light Sweet Crude Oil futures is CL.
