Livestock

Livestock Meaning:
In commodity market terminology, livestock generally refers to animals that are raised for meat products such as hogs and cattle. Livestock also includes oxen, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, buffalo, mules and donkeys.

As part of an agricultural system, raising livestock is an expensive endeavor requiring time and energy, and hence resulting in high meat prices. Livestock futures on Lean Hogs, Feeder Cattle, Live Cattle and Frozen Pork Bellies are traded by open outcry from 9:05 AM to 1:55 PM Monday thru Friday at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and on the CME electronic Globex trading platform.
